5 23 17 Members present; Me, Taryn, Nico, Charlie, and Anne on speakerphone • First official meeting with the new committee. Yay! • Today we’ll decide the fall play • Charlie suggests The Laramie Project o Good considering our political standing o The casting is extremely flexible and the show is not tech heavy o Costume changes can even happen on stage! o The rights are about $500- pretty standard o Very radical in comparison to last show o This would challenge the actors more and give the director more creative freedom • Anne suggests The Curious Savage o Good if we want our message to be about mental health o 11 characters, so less flexible o Rights are unknown • Motioned by Charlie; The Laramie Project will be our fall play o Seconded by Laurel • Vote for The Laramie Project as our fall play; 5:0:0 • We’ll move on to talking about the Shakespeare play o Anne; it might be a good idea to do a classic that isn’t necessarily Shakespeare o Much Ado is a good one because everyone knows it o Twelfth Night was an option last year, but we said no because it was too much like Comedy of Errors o All’s Well That Ends Well has weird incesty stuff • Motioned by Laurel; Much Ado About Nothing will be our Shakespeare play o Seconded by Charlie • Vote for Much Ado About Nothing to be our Shakespeare play; 5:0:0 • Finally, the money maker. The Musical!!!! o Anne believes Heathers will be a good choice because there are so many female roles, the dancing is whatever you make of it, and the tech is simple o We’re not doing Anything Goes and that’s final. o Shrek is good but we could not pull it off How the hell will we change a human into an ogre? o With Heathers, Ms. Bradford said the musical was extremely controversial because it involved blowing up a school o Even though it’s not what it’s about, people might freak out o We won’t decide on it this week, but it’s good to ask Mr. Kline first o Two weeks from today, we will pick the director of the fall play!
